NEW DELHI: Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio has reportedly introduced a new version of its optical network terminal (ONT) device with cheaper price tag. The company has introduced a Gigahub Home Gateway as part of Jio GigaFiber broadband service. The new offer appears to be aimed at reducing the entry barrier of JioGigaFibre broadband service.
The main highlight of the service is that the users just have to pay Rs 2,500 as security deposit, which is Rs 2,000 less than the current security deposit of Rs 4,500.
A Twitter user posted these details on the microblogging website, revealing new pricing and other details of this new offer from Reliance Jio.
“PSA: In order to reduce the entry barrier of ₹4500 for Jio GigaFiber connections, the company is now offering a smaller, more limited version of their router for ₹2500 instead. Jio has also been bundling Voice services with it & a wider rollout will happen in the coming weeks” reads the post of the user named Preshit Deorukhkar.
Presently, this new service is said to be available only in cities like Chennai and Mumbai. Just like the security deposit of Rs 4,500, the Rs 2,500 too also refundable. This new service offered by the company comes with a router that does not offer internet access but comes with single-band support and offers the speed limit of 50Mbps. It is also said that the service provider is bundling voice-calling facility with the new service.
As per Deorukhkar, the new device support 2.4GHz b/g/n Wi-Fi, and not the 5GHz Wi-Fi band. It also has an Ethernet port and said to measure 9×5-inches. The router also incorporates three RJ45, one RJ11, and one USB 2.0 port located on the back. This new Jio GigaFiber service comes with free 1,100GB monthly data.
