New Delhi: The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the nation-wide operator of Indian Railways network, offers the facility of online ticket bookings for trains, hotels bookings, e-catering services, tourist trains, charter trains, flight ticket bookings, holiday packages, etc. IRCTC had introduced e-ticketing facility in 1999, however, back then, there were many struggles in booking a train ticket online due to lower bandwidth of internet connection, less user-friendly interface of the website, lower awareness of various online facilities among the people.
Over the period of time, with the shift of many offline services to online and better internet connectivity, IRCTC has developed its website which is more user-friendly and easy to navigate. An individual is now able to book train tickets without going to Railway stations and standing in long queues. Through the IRCTC website, upon successful registration and creation of login id and password, residents can book online tickets (e-tickets), instant (tatkal) train tickets, check train status, train routes, Indian Railways stations, make and modify reservations for themselves and for a certain number of passengers as prescribed by IRCTC.
The facility of IRCTC e-ticketing registration and creation of login id and password is free for all the residents. For registration on the IRCTC website, a user should have a valid and functional mobile number and e-mail id.
