With the coronavirus pandemic becoming rampant and deadlier than ever in India, the need to step up vaccination drive is clearly more pressing than now. Those who use Google Search or Maps will now be able to find Covid-19 vaccination locations easily in India. “As more people have access to the COVID-19 vaccine, we’re making it easier to learn why, when and where you can get immunised,” said Karen DeSalvo, MD, M.P.H., Chief Health Officer, Google Health in an official blog post.
Vaccines may be harder for people to access based on factors like where they live, how far they have to drive to a vaccination site, and if they have reliable internet access to book an appointment, explained DeSalvo in the blog post.
The feature has been rolled out in Google Search and Maps. If users search for Covid-19 vaccine location on Google Maps, they will get to see all the vaccination centres nearby. We tested this feature on Google Maps and works fine. On Google Search, the tech giant has a different interface and you will see a host of information related to Covid-19 vaccination. On the left side, you will see an option “Where to get it” and once you click on it, you will be able to check the nearest vaccination centre from your location. Google Search also gives you an overview of the vaccination drive with data like how many people have been fully vaccinated in India so far, how many doses have been given and what percentage of the total population has been vaccinated.
“As we’ve learned throughout the pandemic, no one is safe from COVID-19 until everyone is safe. Getting vaccines to everyone around the world is a challenging, but necessary, undertaking. We’ll keep doing our part and working together until we get there,” DeSalvo further noted in her blog post.
