Good news for unreserved passengers! Now book vacant berths online after chart preparation

New Delhi: Unreserved rail passengers will now have a higher chance of getting a confirmed ticket! Railway minister Piyush Goyal launched a new facility which will allow people to view the train charts and vacant berths on the train. it may be noted that passenger reservation charts were not public before, however now not only will they be publically available but, passengers will also be able to book vacant berths online.

Passengers will be able to access the reservation charts through the IRCTC website. This will allow passengers to get the information of the vacant berths available after chart preparation. They will be able to use this information to book vacant berths either online or through TTEs. The feature is available on the IRCTC website as well as the mobile app.

Railway minister Piyush Goyal while launching the facility said that this just another step by the railways to introduce transparency in the system and to add comfort to the travel experience of the passengers. He further added that with this new facility, passengers will not have run behind TTEs in trains to get vacant berth allocated to them. Also, this chart will be dynamic which means it will upgrade itself as the train proceeds for the destination which will make it easier for passengers to see real-time availability of berths.

Goyal also announced that IRCTC will soon add 30 kitchen base and all kitchen bases will be equipped with cameras. Passengers can see the live feed of their food being prepared in the kitchen to ensure that they are served clean, hygienic food in trains. Railways is also planning biodegradable packing in these kitchen bases so that food quality is not degraded during transit.

He further announced that PoS machines will be made available to all TTEs and catering staff onboard to ensure that passengers are not overcharged and vacant seat allocation is quick. Also, Girish Pillai, Member Traffic, Railway Board said that in 20 days all Rajdhani & Shatabdi trains tickets can be booked even after second charts which are released 30 minutes before the departure of the train.
